NATHANS BIRTH STORY

Okay so today is 7/28/14 and Nathan is 9 months old! I was going back through old posts and saw this in the drafts and realized I never finished typing it out! I am so sad =( I barely remember much from that day but my sister sure does! She was in the delivery room with me so she is going to have to help me out on this one =) Here are some pictures of the best day of my life!

Nathan was induced on his due date 10/24/13 after all 40 weeks of pregnancy (I so did not think I would go full term) We checked into the hospital that Wednesday night the 23rd at 8:30pm and i dont remember being nervous at all! I honestly don't think I really ever was nervous until the nurse popped my feet into those stirrups and said it was time to go!They started cytotec right when we got there and the pitocin at 4:15am which at that point I was only at 2cm and 50% effaced. I didnt sleep but maybe an hour that whole night because I was just to excited. I would get so excited when they would come in to see how much I had progressed. My water broke on its own at about 7:00am and thats when it got bad! I felt really nothing up until my water broke and then it was all down hill until i got the epidural an hour and a half later. The epidural was a joke too! They made Jonathan leave the room and when they went to give it to me they DID IT WRONG and my whole body felt so weird and they had to do it all over again. Once they did it correctly it was all good again and at that point i was at 4cm and 80% effaced. By 10:30am I was 7cm and 100% effaced. They nurse said if she would have to guess I would have a baby by 1pm and she was RIGHT! They stopped the pitocin at 11am because I was already at a 9 and my contractions were way to strong. They were right on top of each other and the baby wasnt handling it very good. They put me on oxygen for a little bit and had me lay on my side and everything went back to normal. At about 12 I started to feel a ton of pressure and sure enough it was time to start pushing! I progressed so fast, my doctor didnt even have time to get there and the  nurse had to start delivering him. I pushed for an HOUR before he came. I lost a lot of blood and he had ingested miconium so at that point she said I had 1 more push and then they were going to get the vacuum. Apparently I wasn't feeling the vacuum because at exactly 1pm Nathan Edward Jordan entered the world!! I was able to hold him while they fixed me up, nurse him, and my family got to see him for about 5 minutes before they took him to the nursery. Unfortunately he had very low blood sugar and they had to keep him there for the first 2 nights =( They had him hooked up to an IV and had to bottle feed him on top of me nursing and Jonathan wasn't able to hold him until 9pm that night. Luckily we were able to see him whenever we wanted and I was able to nurse him every 2 hours so we were lucky! The first day for me was rough and I honestly dont remember much if not anything from after he was born. My epidural started to wear off when she was stitching me up (which took an HOUR) so they gave me some meds which I didn't respond well to. I kept passing out on and off and thats all I remember until that night! I am so lucky the whole family was able to hold him at the hospital but was so ready to get home and snuggle our sweet boy!

39 weeks

So ive gone back to slacking when it comes to posting but I am just SO tired! Today is 10/20/13 and we are just DAYS away from our due date! (10/24/13) At our 39 week appointment this last Wednesday we made the decision to not induce that evening after AGAIN hearing that I had not progressed one bit! Our little one is OBVIOUSLY in no hurry to come out! Since we had originally planned on inducing Wednesday, this past Monday was my last day of work. My boss is the best and told me to come in my last week and just rest. That has been the best thing for me! I have no energy to do ANYTHING these days. Not only am I physically exhausted im also emotionally exhausted! I randomly start crying all the time and am not really sleeping much at all. Every little thing that happens to me I think...is this labor?? But NOPE still no baby! I started working on his baby book the other and repacked the hospital bags. As far as nesting goes it kindof just disappeared? I feel like I WANT to deep clean the house again and organize and get more things done but I just don't have the energy! I feel like at this point its just a waiting game!
When we decided to cancel the induction from this Wednesday we did decide to reschcedule for next Wednesday that way he does not go past his due date! We are being strong in our decision to let him come when he is ready. We don't want a lot of medications (other the epidural...duh) but I am also being strong in the fact that I don't want him going any longer then the due date! No way! Hes getting evicted pretty soon! So it is being scheduled for Wednesday 10/23 at 8pm, so he will more then likely be born on his due date 10/24 =)
As far as symptoms goes im pretty much just exhausted and hungry! Not sure how much ive gained? Ill check in the morning. I can not WAIT for him to be born so I can have my caffeine again! I also will be sending someone stat once hes born for some Starbucks pumpkin frappe and lattes. OOOOMG ive had a few decaff but im ready for the real thing! Of course fall is my FAVORITE time of year and ive been eating about everything pumpkin. Im still always wanting sweets which is SO not like me but its just so good!
I just can not WAIT to meet him!! Im also excited to tell everyone his name and post nursery pictures! Hopefully we wont have a 40 week update!!

Things I've learned about pregnancy

Water is SO good! Never thought I would drink so much or love it so much

Soda is absolutely my drug! Also didn't know how much I loved it until I couldn't drink it every hour of every day.

I always thought walking up 3 flights of stairs would be the hardest activity I would do during the day. Until I was 9 months pregnant and trying to get in and out of bed, let alone trying to roll over and switch positions in bed when one of my hips start to hurt.  So much work!

I always dreaded the thought of having to strip down to nothing for nurses and doctors before becoming pregnant. I haven't even delivered him yet and I already over it. Who cares!

The love I have for my dog has already grown so much! He has always been my only baby. It makes me so incredibly sad that he is going to be affected by the baby since he already has.  But I also get so excited knowing the love I will have for the baby will be so much more.

False Alarm!

So we haven't had this handsome boy yet but are thinking he is coming soon! I wanted to make sure I had his delivery story down cause I knew once he came I would be so exhausted I would have a hard time remembering. Something started happening on Sunday 9/29/13. Nothing major I just woke up feeling achy, moody, and weepy. I just remember telling Jonathan "I just don't feel good" I had a horrible day, nothing really hurt that I could describe I just didn't feel well. That is also when I became harder and harder to sleep. Again I didn't really feel anything but could not comfortable. So on Monday I woke up in a WAY better mood but was SO sleepy. Like cant keep my eyes open sleepy. I was texting a few friends about it and told them that I was also getting some light cramping. Almost like my period was about to start. I thought it was weird but didn't think much of it. They ALL started saying "that's what contractions feel like!!!" I did NOT believe them because it didn't hurt at all! But after multiple people started to tell me the same thing I was like holy cow is this happening? Well it obviously wasn't. I got about 4 I would say on Monday and probably 5 or so on Tuesday and they were in no kind of order and were not getting stronger at all.
So Wednesday was the day I was looking forward to, my doctors appointment! We were both a little nervous because I was having minor contractions and I knew she would do a cervical check. I woke up in a GREAT mood which quickly changed when we got to the doctors office and the receptionist told us that she had forgotten to enter my appointment the week before and we didn't have one scheduled.....ugh......so after waiting about an hour and a HALF we were finally called back in. It was obviously a very rushed appointment where she wasn't even going to check me but I said PLEASE check! So she did and I was already 1 cm dilated and 20-30% effaced! Even though it wasn't much I was still excited that I had made progress that week!
I will not post what happened to me Wednesday and Thursday... I will spare whoever reads this the details cause its pretty gross but it is a stage of early labor and I think the jump start of everything! It honestly was not nearly as horrible as people say it is actually.
So Friday morning is when I started to feel a little more achiness, more sleepiness, and had a few random contractions and one more thing from Wednesday and Thursday. That day my mom called and said she had a "feeling" he was coming soon and really wanted to come in early (Her and Kimbee had planned on coming Saturday afternoon after her SAT's) She decided to come by herself that afternoon. I told her I was not having the baby that she shouldn't miss work but she insisted anyway! Saturday morning I woke up and still nothing! I was still having random contractions but not much. Sunday was a different story. I woke up having contractions and once I decided to tell my mom we realized they were consistently 10 min apart. VERY SCARY! we went the whole day timing them still 10 min. Finally Sunday evening we started believing that it could be real and my mom decided to call my dad and sister. I again told them not come until I knew I was a for real thing but they wanted to come anyway! As the  night went on we realized they started getting a little painful and were now 7 minutes apart! I called my manager and let her know I would not be in the next morning because I was planning on going to the hospital. Monday morning, I was still unsure if it was actually time. I always thought you would just "know" when you were in labor. I still wasn't in much  pain but contractions were still about 5-7 min apart. We decided to take our time, sleep in (well not me) Jonathan woke up to go to work for a few hours to tie up loose ends and my family and I went to breakfast. During breakfast I started getting very nervous because the contractions went down to 5 min apart!!! Okay now I was nervous and called Jonathan and told him to come home. We packed the car and headed to the hospital!...We still had my parents stay at home until we knew it was the real thing.
Long story short. We got to the hospital and after 4 hours of being monitored and checked I had not progressed at all. =( I was so upset!! Not only because I was not in actual labor but the checks the nurse (who I did not like at all) hurt me SO bad and even after the checks I was hurting and bleeding so bad. The contractions actually got stronger and more frequent at the hospital (3 min apart!) I had no idea where to go from there. All the websites and books tell you to go to the hospital when your contractions are consistently 5 min apart and progressively getting more intense. That is exactly what was happening and yet it wasn't time? SO CONFUSING! I decided to take the next day off of work just incase I needed to go back to the hospital but NOTHING! My parents decided to stay in town until Wednesday because I had my 38 week appointment to see if I had progressed at least at that point.
At my 38 week it was STILL not time BUT I had progressed at least to 1.5 cm and 50% effaced. yay... not really... we made the decision to go ahead and induce at week 39 IF I had made it to at least 3 cm. I was really worried about knowing when to go to the hospital and having a baby on my office floor! After we left our appointment we went home told my family, they left and we went back to work, back to the real world! I was ready to get back to reality and was glad I would have work to keep my mind off of everything!
